Interesting Lunch September

A big thanks to all those who attending this month's interesting lunch held at the Bridgeshouse in St. Neots. We had 19 diners this month all from within the St. Neots Area. Also a special thanks to Anthony Richardson the 'interesting' speaker who spoke to the group about his voice over business http://www.overvoice.co.uk/ and much much more!! It was certainly an eye opener to hear how with a multi revenue stream of businesses how you can make it in the world without a proper job! Next months lunch is yet to be confirmed, but promise to get that nailed this week.
Finally a thanks to Michelle at the Bridgehouse for catering for us all. Just a note to some of you; Brian Leeming at Business Link has some very 'interesting' news for people within St. Neots who know that they are to be made redundant. It would seem there is some help out there for you.
Call us at Print Hut 01480 216 331 and we will put you in touch with him.

Reality heating up!

The battle of the reality programmes is heating up between the X factor and Strictly Come Dancing, I must admit that I am a sad follower of both, watch one tape one! Being as though Ricky Groves ( Gary from Eastenders ) is a local to St Neots and is seen in a couple of the local pubs here, we are supporting him. We seem to do well with stars appearing on the programme as last year it was Mark Foster who also lives in St Neots and visited a lot of the local schools during his dancing campaign! Lets see how this years series turns out.

Apauling Mauling to Brave Warriors- all in 2 hours. Thats St Neots Under 9's for ya!

Another glorious day down at the St.Neots ground on Sunday 27th September with just 2 more training sessions until we meet our first opponents of the new session; Hitchin away at Hitchin on 11th October 2009. So the question is, how are the St. Neots Under 9's shaping up? Have the backs got the speed and the guts and the line? Have the forwards got the drive and the hunger to be where it counts when the ball goes to ground? Well for the first hour of this weeks training despite some of Bryan's and Jim's best shouting to date I would say they hadn't a clue and it was painful watching our attempts at mauling. However, all was soon to change when the Under 9's faced the might of the under 10's for a second time as a training session. The first quarter proved that the boys were beginning to understand their positions and duties. The St. Neots under 9's  passed the ball well in this quarter and seemed unphased by the more experinced opposition. Also there was some solid, committed tackling on the park and good recycling on the ball. The forwards turned over the ball on more than one occassion allowing the backs to find the wings. Bryan was clearly delighted by the end of the first quarter when we were still holding the score at 'nil nil'. The second half exposed a few tired legs and lack of experience with mauls and the St. Neots under 10's soon began to break through our line of defense with some great solo runs.Thomas was subbed when he picked up an ankle injury. Ray was on hand with some first aid and it was decided a trip to A and E would be advisable. The next 20 minutes of the game showed us that mauling, though still a bit of a mess, will begin to work and has some force behind it. What the St. Neots under 9's will need to work on is driving over the ball when its gone to ground. When all worked - the tries came and the final score was a lot closer than anyone could have imagined. All in all a great game. Bryan and Jim's summary highlighted Alex, Jaydon and Callum for great tackling and awarded player of the week to Daniel Golden for his forward running. A club spokesman (Bryan) confirmed Thomas suffered bruising and will be back in time for the Hitchin game, taking a week off to recover.

St. Neots under 9s mini rugby - ball boys required!

Ok so here's a great idea to bring the senior club and mini's together at St.Neots! In return the seniors will provide some additional coaching on the mini rugby training sessions on a Sunday! Time for micro print factory to move!

Things have been getting a little squeezed at Print Hut recently. Just seems to be a mass of cables, leads, and laptops and of course very hot! So been looking to make the right move and find a new home for ultra wholesale printing, 2 years after first moving into our existing MPF. Have drawn up a short list and this could be just the ticket! Splash of bright green paint and the jobs a good'n.

Been asked too often now to extend our products into the promotional print market. So all you punters thinking I was ignoring the signs are wrong. Quietly in the background over the past few months Print hut have been forging alliances and building the Ultra Wholesale model to work in this sector. So we are now offering an extensive range of promotional print and corporate gifts. That's polo shirts, key rings, pens, mouse matts and mugs etc etc. So that big orange truck will now be packed full of corporate goodies for Christmas. Christ it's Christmas!!!!

Indian Summer

The Micro Print Factory (or MPF to our friends in the micro and small business world), is heating up again. Cant 'adam and eve it'!! Anyway it got me thinking why is it called an indian summer? One suggestion is its because this is when India has its summer. Hmmmm not convinced by that one..

Scrumaging. St. Neots Under 9's Training session 20.09.09

The St. Neots Under 9's today had the benefit of Jamie's training and coaching with the scrum. All the boys had a turn with a variety of positions, incuding prop, hooker (tight head and loose) and scrum half. Finished the session with a 6 a side game where all what was taught was put into action. Good imaginitive play generally, but seem to be struggling a bit with the lineout game. What are your thoughts? Thought Ian Nash did a splendid job as ref by the way; didnt go unnoticed matey!!! Jamie named Matthew James as player of the week for St. Neots Under 9's, where he showed both bottle against opposition 'twice his size' and 'good intelligent passing play'.

HBSC Fraudulent card services

I recently had a call from HSBC fraudulent card services or something, asking for some key information from me, before continung with the call and information that clearly would be of interest to me. Trying not to sound like James Khan from the BBC hit series the Dagons Den, let me tell you where I stand;

Never ever never ever never!!! give any information to anyone proporting to be from the bank. Think about it; what levels to the bank go to ensure when customers call in they are satisfied with the true indentity of the caller. In this recent incident I refused to exchange any information. Instead, I went online, and printed off a statement called into the HSBC call centre and followed up on the enquiry. And here comes the best bit!!! Guess what, no sign of fraudulent activity or any call logged as being made.

Conker not Conquer!!

The business  has installed a bespoke bit of software called 'conker' (not Conquer) which brings the entire buisness together as well as allowing print hut to scan suppliers and customers instantly. This means I get my reports any business owner needs, suppliers get feedback on their pricing and customers get the leanest prices possible at that precise moment. The recall function now allows us instant access to artwork files and customer databases whilst the customer end of the software now means full integrity between estimate, qoutation and invoices. If any wholesale supplier wishes to be included in our database give one of us a call in the office and lets chat.

Training Session 13.09.09

IMG00287

Good turnout this week with around a dozen kids reporting for duty for St. Neots under 9's plus a full training team present. With the return of Jim, a good session was in store for all with maybe a few tears as the ‘knocks n bumps’ would begin to mount. Lots of passing training at the start of the session was an early indication that the boys were beginning to gel again after the summer break, plus some mauling drills showing that maybe they were now ready and ‘up’ for a more physical game. It would seem that a good shape was also appearing today with a fine looking set of forwards, backs and wingers moving well and holding their positions. A few of the kids were on the receiving end of some good tackles and strong solo runs both through the centre and on the wings. Needless to say our first aider, Stewart was on hand with his magic spray on more than one occasion today.

To end the session the St. Neots under 9's faced St. Neots under 10's and delivered a magnificent effort under tough and obviously heavier opposition. The St. Neots under 9's forwards held their own at both ends of the field in the game. Tackling began a little shy to start with from St. Neots under 9's but very soon our backs learnt the harsh lesson that the buck stops with them and the forwards beginning to believe in themselves as opposed to worrying about the opposition. Very soon the team began to make the tackling count, stopping on several occasions some fine individual running from the St. Neots under 10's. Overall some great play and lots of physical confidence from St. Neots under 9’s. Well done all!

New book for Toilet Library

Listened to a great talk by Martin Miller from McLellan Solicitors in Hertford. Did you know it is against the law for a welshman to be within side the walls of the city of Chester after Midnight! I beleive this to be an ancient law and for some unexplicable reason is still law in Chester, rather than a pilot scheme that will be rolled out throughout all cities in England during the next 12 months. Also did you know if you book into a London Hotel under a false name for the sole purpose of lovemaking, I will call the police and also have you arrested for breaking the law. Anyway a great talk Martin and I was delighted to have won this book. It will have pride of place in our downstairs toilet library in our house in St. Neots along with other printed materials such as 'famous bearded women'!!!

An Ultra Wholeale Romantic meal for a fiver!!

I know its not really anything to do with printing in St. Neots, but is in the true spirit of ultra wholesale!!! This was a real winner last night as I sat down with printhuteer#2 to celebrate our nineth wedding anniversary. It was easy to make and only took 20 minutes to prepare and serve up. Give it a go; it tasted fantastic!!

Chili and Prawn Linguini

200g linguini, cooked as per packet
instructions
200g cooked prawns
2 tbsp olive oil
half an onion, chopped
1 red chilli, deseeded and chopped
4 tomatoes
pinch of sugar
salt and ground black pepper
1 tbsp chopped parsley

Method
1. In a frying pan, add the olive oil and chopped onion. Cook the onion over a low/medium heat until softened. Add the chilli and cook for a further minute or so.
2. Meanwhile, cut the tomatoes in half, and then each half into 3 wedges. Add
these to the pan with the onion and chilli, along with the pinch of sugar. Cook
until the tomatoes start to break down and soften. Add the prawns and cook for a
further minute, or until the prawns are warmed through.
3. Add the linguini to the pan and sprinkle over the parsley. Season with the salt
and pepper. Toss the pan to mix. Turn into two warm bowls and serve.

A1 Closure St. Neots

ROAD closures are planned as part of major roadworks on the A1 Eaton Socon bypass.

The work, due to begin on Friday, September 4, and finish, weather permitting, before Christmas, involves repairing and resurfacing a three-mile stretch of the A1 from the A428 Wyboston junction to Hail Bridge, just north of the B645 junction at Hail Weston. Customers visiting Print Hut's Micro Print Factory shouldn't ever be effected as the work is carried out in the evenings and at weekends. Well thats the plan!!

Whilst I'm here check out the old photo of the black cat I found on the net.

First Training Session for St. Neots Under 9s

IMG00273 IMG00274 IMG00275
Welcome back all after the summer break. Great to see the usual faces both on and off the pitch. No taggs this year and the boys were quick to learn the new game. A few shocks for some, but all in all a good session. Jim was away on a training course (shouting course!!) so Bryan and Ian had to work that little bit harder. Those who were unable to make this one, I hope to see you all next week. A few shots here of the St. Neots ground and the new St. Neots under 9's in training mode. Speaking to Bryan in the bar afterwards supping on a guiness it would seem most of St. Neots' games are at home this season. Next two weeks are training then a county cup tournament away at Ely. Can I suggest we all pack rain hats. Who remembers last year? Lets hope the organisers have the 'balls' to cancel this time if the same weather front comes in again on the Saturday. Cheers all

Decided to run my ow unofficial match report for the St. Neots Mini Rugby Team Under 9's. This is their first season playing the 'contact' game after a few years learning the ropes using tags. Below is a brief summary of the rules they are going to be adopting. All the best Saints.... here we go!

Print Prices

As over capacity increased in the last quarter so costs from our wholesale providers began to dip. Well done all those who saw the signs and got more print for their money. However, that traditionally lean period is now over and we will see prices starting to rise through September, leading to a peak around 30 days prior to Christmas. Our advise is get your orders confirmed by mid September and Print Hut! will offer to hold their prices for a further 30 days.

Get the message right!

Print Hut! see loads of micro buisness coming to us wanting to see their name in lights. Often a start up business is desparate to see the business name on their printed matter as large as possible. In actual fact guys, this can be a costly exercise and a strategy as effective as throwing money out of the nearest open window. Here is a fact that is going to hurt. 'Your customers are not buying your company name.' What they WANT to buy is what is left once you're gone. So think hard and work on a message that is going to strike a chord with their needs. Likewise the content that you are going to use need not be lenghty at all. Please dont write a book for a flyer, you will possibly only have one chance to grab their attention and your potential customer wont tolerate a written masterpiece. Finally get a 'call for action' planned. How are they going to make contact with you? If you are using a phone number make sure for god sake someone can answer the call. If you want to use an email, reply immediately with a confirmation. It's easier than ever to set up auto replies. To get print working for you, you will need to get this right. Do some research with your current data base. Ask your clients why they use you. I bet the reasons you think they use you are totally different from their reasons for using you. Basically tune your business radio into your clients wave lenghts and not into your own wave lenghts. If not you are transmitting to an audience of ONE! and thats YOU! Customers are selfish people as are all human beings; They want to know what is in it for them and not what you do. A classic example of this is the DIY guy who visits B&Q looking for a 3mm drill bit. What he really wants is a 4mm hole isn't it, but you cant buy a 4mm hole can you!!!
Think better micro buisness and your print investment will return so much more.
