Tough Trading or Summer sale?

This depends what side of the fence you are sitting on. On one hand, June and July can be an exceptionally quiet months for our wholesale manufacturers as print consumerism evaporates. On the other hand it also can be a great time to buy when capacity opens right up and prices begin to tumble to an annual low. June and July are often referred to as two of three dreaded Js; January June and July! Historically, therefore, June is a great yard stick for measuring how buoyant the print market is as we reach the half way mark in the year. It also for many of our wholesale providers the end of their first trading quarter and these next few weeks can be a scamble to get turnover up and keep their presses full!!

It is reckoned that June will return a 7% saving on prebooked web offset printing and an astounding 10% on large format and litho B1 and B2 markets. So you can be smart and savvy and taken full advantage of the seasonal adjustment in unit print costs, planned properly you can go on a shopping spree and bag a right ol' bargain!!

Print Hut's Frank Golden was asked to play a game of cricket just outside of St.Neots in Great Staughten last weekend, 8th May.

After 25 years out of action he took to the pitch...........

However due to lack of trainning (obviously) he dropped 2 catches, bottles out of a third.

Bowling didn't fair much better. 2 Overs bowled, 5 wides and a wicket. Batting in at number 8 his job was simple; just stay there and let number 4 clock up the runs. Unfortunately, Frank forget just how close the crease was to the wickets and knocked the bails off 15 minutes in...

Passing words by the captain was, 'See ya Thursday for training!!!!'

Ok so the bean counters are hard at it and Charlotte our 'accounts dragon' is busy pumping through final invoices as we near the end of our financial year. All looking good with final turnover trebbling last year's results with profits still at last year's levels. The majority of the new growth has come from volume users, but we have also seen a bouyant year from New Start Up Businesses wishing to get functional print designed and printed. Everybody has worked hard and smart this year so a big thanks in advance to Charlotte, Neil and Andy.
Without having to think too hard, I beleive we have had only a very small percentage of non payers this year so also a huge thanks to our many customers who have cleared their debts promptly during what has been for many a tough trading year. Next year we hope to introduce further products for the micro business market including the launch of VIDEO HUT that should be up and running by June if all goes to plan

Only 2 days to go before the biggest and maybe last English World Cup match of 2010

There are only 2 days to go now until the biggest match of some of the England's players careers with so much to gain if they win their crunch match against Slovenia!

With talk of rifts within the team, players making their opinions heard, intruders in the dressing rooms it certainly has been a busy few days for Fabio Capello and I for one certainly wouldn't want to be in his shoes at the moment with the whole of England rooting for him to make some changes within the team and building the teams passion and confidence up.

Having watched Brazil 'v' Ivory Coast last night, they were teams with passion, goals, controversial sending off which is what a World Cup match should be about.

So now we all wait with baited breath to see who will be in goal again, who will partner Rooney or will he change his playing formation again and will David Beckham be their in his suit again acting more like an England manager should with the looks of despair, joy and passion of what the team could achieve.

So roll on 2.15 on Wednesday for all the build up before the kick off at 3pm where probably most workplaces will try and come to some sort of stand still and kids rushing home from school to see their idols in action. Perhaps being on BBC will bring them some kind of luck!

The most annoying thing of the World Cup so far has got to be vuvuzelas, they sound just like a giant mosquito right by your ear. There are now some websites showing you how to retune your tv to drown out the constant buzz!

What a calamity!!!

Oh dear, I for one would not like to be in Robert Green's boots this morning or the head of ITV HD channel, one for letting in a calamity goal that even my son could save or for ITV HD not even showing the only decent goal of the match.

It all looked to be going so well with Gerrard scoring in the 4th minute, but then it went downhill, or in the back of the net! When England came back in the second half they did have some chances, but the only thing that really stands out is the save made by Green to save some of his sanity. All high hopes are pinned on the likes of Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard and Peter Crouch to score the necessary goals but I think Fabio will be working them hard this week before Friday as they all have a lot to prove. Tim Howard, the Everton goalkeeper was given the man-of-the-match award for his cool, calm display. What England would have given for his composure.

England may have drawn, but I am sure a lot of fans will feel like they lost partiucarly with all the Americans rushing to celebrate with their fans at the final whistle as if they had won.

With Ledley King going off at half time with a groin injury and now a doubt for Friday against Algeria and James Milner not on top form after suffering a stomach bug in the week, Fabio will be having some tough choices to make about his team selection, will he stick with Robert Green or prefer the experience of David James if he is fit enough.

Only 1 Day to go!

That's it folks, only 1 day to go now until the biggest competition of the year kicks off, after all the months and weeks of hype of who is in and who is out, the World Cup will finally get underway. Expect to see even more English flags on houses, cars and maybe even on the Houses of Parliment. Pubs will be expecting record numbers will turn out in force to watch the games and bring in much needed revenue, beer guts will be out in force or some people just prefer to watch it on the own tv at home. Whatever happens, lets hope it is a good year for England and maybe, just maybe they can bring home the cup!

Injury worries for World Cup Players

My son has reliably just told me that Rio Ferdinand has just left hospital in South Africa on crutches injurying his left knee and now a doubt for the World Cup and Michael Dawson is now on stand by to fly out.

Also, Didier Drogba of Chelsea and the Ivory Coast has broken his arm in a warm up game against Japan and is now definitely out of the World Cup - my son is going to be dissappointed as he was looking forward to watching Ivory Coast against Portugal.

These may be worrying times for the managers and players.

England are on their way to Austria

The England team are travelling to Irdning, near Salzburg, for altitude training to help prepare for the conditions they will face in South Africa at the World Cup despite the ash cloud giving them a few problems as to whether they would get there or not, but fortunately the flight restrictions have now been lifted.

Austria is becoming an increasingly popular destination for Europe's top clubs, with Arsenal also using the excellent facilities which were shown off at the 2008 European Championships, held jointly with Switzerland. Another nine international teams, including World Cup participants Japan, Greece and North Korea will travel to Austria to play friendly matches.

The squad is due to play a friendly against Mexico at Wembley on 24 May.

England's squad is due to return to Irdning two days after the Mexico friendly before playing their final pre-World Cup friendly against Japan in nearby Graz on 30 May.

Following that match, the 30-man squad will come back to England and the final 23-man squad will be announced on Tuesday, 1 June before flying out to their Rustenburg World Cup base in South Africa the following day.

The ash cloud disruption comes at the end of a testing week for England's Football Association.

It had to deal with Capello's involvement in a player ratings website for the World Cup - the plans for which have now been postponed.

And on Sunday, Lord Triesman stepped down as chairman of the FA and the England 2018 World Cup bid after a newspaper article said he suggested Spain could drop its 2018 bid if rival bidder Russia helped bribe referees at this summer's World Cup.

With all the hype and glamour the World Cup is going to present us with from South Africa, it is easy to forget that it is also host to some of the poorest regions. On BBC3 for the next 4 weeks, 5 WAGS ( Wives and Girlfriends) of the most highly paid football stars are going to experience the harsh reality it really offers in a programme called 'WAGs, Kids & World Cup Dreams'. This week begins with the ex of Frank Lampard working in a childrens home on the outskirts of Cape Town.

Can England be confident in their key players for World Cup 2010

For England to stand a chance at World Cup 2010 they will need to have their key players firing on all cylinders. But we have just witnessed one of the weakest Premier Leagues for several seasons, and no English teams made the last four of the Champions League. Is it all doom and gloom?

Ashley Cole and John Terry seem to be hitting their form at the back for Chelsea, helping the Blues keep three clean sheets in their final three games of the Premier League. Their colleague Frank Lampard hit his 21st goal of the league season on Sunday and looks to be in impreious form. While Wayne Rooney is back on the football pitch again, something worth rejoicing in its own right.

However, Rio Ferdinand only just completed his first full 90 minutes for some time against Stoke and is nowhere near his best form. Likewise, Steven Gerrard seems to have caught a heavy dose of the malaise that is currently afflicting all and sundry at Anfield. And can we even be sure who England's keeper will be in South Africa? With only 31 days left, there is a lot still to happen.

Well the Premiership has now finished for the Season, but for the some players the World Cup looms!

After the thrilling conclusion to the Premeirship this weekend, the players have done all they can to impress Fabio Capello as he names his preliminary 30 man squad to represent England tomorrow, followed by trhe final 23 on 1 June.

Building up to those announcements we will monitor their progress on a week-to-week basis, and how close they are to persuading the manager they are ready to fly the flag in South Africa.

The return of Cole from injury has confirmed his fitness. He has completed three full 90 minutes coinciding with three straight clean sheets.
Rio Ferdinand
Surely he will be in the 30 at least, but doubts persist whether he is a certainty for South Africa. The defender completed 90 minutes against Stoke, his first full game in four. Like Terry, he was left out of PFA Premier League Team of the Year by his fellow professionals.

The jewel in England’s crown but doubts over his fitness persist. Rooney won both the PFA Player of the Year and the Football Writers’ Footballer of the Year but a groin problem on Sunday leaves fresh doubts over his fitness.

Whether there is room for Rooney and Defoe is not clear, but he is the next best thing and is a must for South Africa. After recovering from a groin injury suffered in training he is back but looked off the pace against Bolton.

Another busy and exciting week for all of our players and only one week left to go for most of our Premiership players unless they are in the FA Cup final, Chelsea and Portsmouth or the Europa League final, Fulham to impress Fabio Capello so how has this weekend faired for all our players and their chances of getting on that plane.

-- ON THE PLANE

David James
The veteran goalkeeper is 40 in August and though Portsmouth are down, the chance to play in the FA Cup final - almost certainly his last game for the club - has given James fresh focus, which can only be good for England.
Robert Green
West Ham’s goalkeeper is 30 but has just nine caps. Some argue he has a place by default only, but he remains in the top three.
Joe Hart

World Cup fever getting forever closer now.

The World Cup is now getting closer by the day and we are bombarded with it in the shops, supermarkets, papers, tv, so where ever you go you can not escape it whether you are a football fan or not. The timeline for Fabio Capello is also drawing in as well for him to name that crucial team. Below is a list of all the relevant dates for him and hopefully no more serious injuries.

Sunday May 9 - Final day of the Premier League season.

Wednesday May 12 - Final of the Europa League, which involve Fulham.

Saturday May 15 - Chelsea take on Portsmouth at Wembley in the FA Cup final (kick-off 15.00).

Sunday May 16 - England manager Fabio Capello announces his provisional 30-man squad to travel to a training camp in Irdning, Austria for pre-tournament preparations
Monday May 17 - The players, staff and coaching team meet and fly out to Austria.

Monday May 24 - England face Mexico at Wembley (kick-off 20.00) in their penultimate friendly before the World Cup.

Tuesday May 25 - Squad return to camp in Austria for further training.

Sunday May 30 - England face Japan at the UPC-Arena, Graz, Austria, kick-off 14.15 BST in their final warm-up match. The squad will return to England after the match.
Tuesday June 1 - Capello announces his final 23-man squad for World Cup 2010.

Wednesday June 2 - England fly out to South African base in Rustenburg.

Saturday June 12 - England face USA in their opening World Cup Group C match at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, Rustenburg (kick-off 19.30 BST).

Friday June 18 - England play Algeria at the Green Point Stadium, Cape Town (kick-off 19.30 BST).

Wednesday June 23 - England face Slovenia in their final Group C match at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Port Elizabeth (kick-off 15.00 BST).

Another very exiciting weekend in the Premiership especially if you are a Chelsea or Manchester United fan seeing who is going to win that important Premiership title, after Chelsea's stunning 7.0 win over Stoke, I think they have it in the bag. In our household they are Arsenal supporters and think they have realised 3rd is their ultimate spot. Unfortunately Burnely have also been relegated along with Portsmouth but not sure who else will be joining them.

It was also an exciting weekend for Wayne Rooney and James Milner winning PFA player of the year and Young Player of the year so does this mean they will get on that plane to South Africa. Hopefully Wayne Rooney will be recovered enough to get there.

Could Beckham really be at the World Cup this year?

Rumours have it that David Beckham could be at the World Cup in South Africa, though it is all dependant on whether his consultant surgeon gives him the go ahead.

If Dr Sakari Orava gives Beckham the go-ahead then he will join up with the squad when they fly out on June 2. There is one more important qualification to his involvement – England will also have to make sure that he can carry out his rehabilitation work at their training camp in Rustenburg.

If the necessary facilities and equipment are not available then Beckham, 34, will not be allowed to go especially as he is determined, despite fears over the future of his career, to play again before the end of the year.

Capello contacted Beckham the night he tore the Achilles playing for AC Milan last month and immediately offered him the chance to go to South Africa. The offer was partly to raise Beckham's spirits but Capello is also serious in his belief that the midfielder can be an asset to England.

It is a mark of how highly Capello rates Beckham – as a person as well as a player – that he has made the offer even though the Italian is aware of the worldwide interest and attention that he attracts and the danger of his presence being a distraction.

The manager believes that Beckham retained qualities – especially with his passing and ability at set-pieces, as well as his experience and the way in which he conducts himself – that were important to his squad.

Whether Beckham is now anything more than a glorified cheerleader if he goes to South Africa remains to be seen, but it is thought likely that Capello may ask him to carry out other duties, especially helping to work with some members of the squad.

If he goes to the World Cup it will also please the organisers, who have already asked if he would take part in the opening ceremony. It will also boost England's bid to host the 2018 tournament with Beckham's involvement having already helped resurrect a failing campaign.

Will be worth him going, just to see what hair style he adopts as he normally has an outlandish style that most young boys want to adopt and cause a talking point amongst the media.

Love him or hate him, you cannot criticize his record: 18 goals in 36 games including two against Egypt. Not always first choice but he remains a great impact player. Started on the bench at the weekend after suffering from tonsilitis.

A possible third choice goalkeeper, and moving to Birmingham has helped, but is fearful that he will have to spend next season on Manchester City’s bench.

Has enjoyed a good season but conceded three goals at home, against Everton, on Saturday.

Dependable defender but currently injured. If he is fit, Capello will want him on the plane but time is running out.
Matthew Upson
The jury is still out on Upson. Having an average season for West Ham, but regarded as good cover for Terry and Ferdinand.
Michael Dawson
His performances have echoed Spurs’ success this season and a magnificent display against Chelsea at the weekend in front of Capello has pushed him up the ladder.

Such a great prospect but his career was on ice when he suffered serious injury last April. Now back on a regular basis.

The sight of Cole on the bench, at Spurs, will have gladdened the heart of Capello, and he should start against Stoke at the weekend, the first of three games he has left to prove his fitness.

Since 1966, England have not been able to repeat their wining glory, here we take a look at how they have done:

ENGLAND 1966:

Alf Ramsey's 'wingless wonders' finally claimed the Jules Rimet Trophy for England with a dramatic 4-2 victory over West Germany in the final at Wembley, but it started slowly for the hosts.

A 0-0 opening draw against Uruguay led to doubts over England's ability to dethrone Brazil, but England reached the last eight following victories over Mexico and France.

A controversial 1-0 victory over Argentina earned a semi-final against Portugal at Wembley. England won 2-1 to face the Germans and Geoff Hurst's hat-trick proved decisive in the final.
MEXICO 1970:
England travelled to Mexico as world champions with many observers regarding the squad as stronger than four years earlier.

But after finishing second in their group to Brazil, who went on to claim a third World Cup, England were pitted against West Germany in the quarter-finals in what proved to be one the country's last World Cup fixture for 12 years.

Despite the loss of virus-stricken Gordon Banks, England went 2-0 ahead, but Sir Alf Ramsey's decision to substitute Bobby Charlton in the closing stages coincided with a German fightback that resulted in a 3-2 defeat for England.
SPAIN 1982:
Ron Greenwood's England ended the nation's 12 year World Cup exile and ultimately returned home without having lost a game.

Injuries to key figures Kevin Keegan and Trevor Brooking dogged Greenwood, but a 3-1 opening game victory over France, in which Bryan Robson scored after just 27 seconds, set England on course for three group victories.

But successive draws against West Germany and Spain in the next group phase led to England's exit.
MEXICO 1986:
Having opened up with a 1-0 defeat to Portugal and 0-0 draw against Morocco, which saw Bryan Robson dislocate his shoulder and Ray Wilkins sent off, Gary Lineker's hat-trick in a 3-0 win against Poland rescued England and secured a second round tie against Paraguay.

Another 3-0 victory against the Paraguayans in Mexico City teed up a quarter-final encounter against Argentina which was won by Diego Maradona's two most memorable goals.

His 'Hand of God' goal put Argentina ahead, but England had no answer to Maradona's majestic solo goal three minutes later.

ITALY 1990:
Another slow start by England, with draws against Ireland and the Netherlands, was followed by qualification to the second round after a 1-0 victory against Egypt.

David Platt's 119th minute volley against Belgium in Bologna led to a nail-biting 3-2 victory over Cameroon in Naples in the quarter-final.

But just as the World Cup beckoned, England ran into the Germans again and a penalty shoot-out defeat in the Turin semi-final was marked by Gazza's tears and spot-kick misses by Stuart Pearce and Chris Waddle.
FRANCE 1998:
Another World Cup, another penalty shoot-out elimination, but this time against Argentina in the second round.

A 2-1 defeat against Romania in Toulouse ensured a second-placed group finish for Glenn Hoddle's team and a meeting with the Argentine's in St Etienne.

Michael Owen's wonder goal and David Beckham's dismissal for kicking out at Diego Simeone are enduring images, but shoot-out misses by Paul Ince and David Batty prompted England's exit.

JAPAN/SOUTH KOREA 2002:
England avenged their 1986 and 1998 defeats against Argentina when David Beckham's penalty sealed a 1-0 group victory in Sapporo.

Despite group draws against Sweden and Nigeria, England progressed to the second round where Sven-Goran Eriksson's team completed a comfortable 3-0 victory over Denmark.

Yet again, the Brazilians stood between England and World Cup glory and despite Michael Owen's opening goal, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho - courtesy of David Seaman's inability to save his long-range free-kick - progressed to the semi-finals.
GERMANY 2006:
England's so-called 'golden generation' flew to Germany telling the world that they were ready to win the World Cup, but Sven-Goran Eriksson's team under-performed before a quarter-final defeat - on penalties again - at the hands of Portugal.

With Wayne Rooney's metatarsal injury hovering over Eriksson, England reached the second round following victories against Paraguay and Trinidad & Tobago and a draw against Sweden which was marred by a serious knee injury suffered by Michael Owen.
David Beckham's free-kick saw off Ecuador in round two, but Rooney's red card in the 0-0 quarter-final draw against Portugal preceded a 3-1 shoot-out defeat.

1966 was an election year and so is 2010.

The World Cup victory that year also saw a new Dr Who on tv, as Patrick Troughton took over from William Hartnell and this year Matt Smith has taken over from David Tennant.

Our World Cup winning captain of 1966, Bobby Moore began his career at West Ham just like the proposed captain this year Rio Ferdinand.

In 1966, Spain were the European Champions, in 2010 the reigning champions are Spain.

Italy waited 44 years between their World Cup win in 1938 and their next in 1982 and it is 44 years since our triumph.

The opening of Parliment was first televised in 1966, and last Thursday was the first TV debate between the prime ministerial candidates.

On July 11 1966 saw the opening match of the World Cup featuring England and on July 11 2010 is the date of the World Cup final - could England be featuring?

So could this really be our year of lifting the World Cup - let's hope so.

West Ham’s goalkeeper is 30 but has just nine caps, and on Saturday kept his first clean sheet in nine games. Some argue he has a place by default only, but he remains in the top three.
John Terry
No longer the captain but still a giant in defending terms. Managed to upset Aston Villa and Martin O’Neill with his challenge on England team-mate James Milner at Wembley but has the incentive of leading the change to lift the Premier League trophy.
Rio Ferdinand
Maybe not having his most consistent season, a factor not helped by injuries. But with Terry remains one of the best central defenders in the world.

Ashley Young
Having an impressive season for Villa but suffered a second Wembley disappointment of the season at the weekend.

World Cup 2010: England players form guide - who will be in Fabio Capello's squad?

The countdown has begun for the World Cup finals in South Africa with England’s expectations higher than at any time since Bobby Robson took the Three Lions to the semi-finals in 1990.

But who will be charged with creating history? And who will spend the summer in their flip-flops sipping sangria?

Capello names a preliminary 30-man England squad in May, followed by the final 23 on June 1.

Building up to those announcements we will monitor their progress on a week-to-week basis, and how close they are to persuading the manager they are ready to fly the flag in South Africa.

What is the World Cup?

The FIFA World Cup, occasionally called the Football World Cup, but usually referred to simply as the World Cup, is an international association football competition contested by the men's national teams of the members of Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the sport's global governing body.

The championship has been awarded every four years since the first tournament in 1930, except in 1942 and 1946, due to World War II.

The tournament consists of two parts, the qualification phase and the final phase (officially called the World Cup Finals). The qualification phase, which currently take place over the three years preceding the Finals, is used to determine which teams qualify for the Finals.

The current format of the Finals involves 32 teams competing for the title, at venues within the host nation (or nations) over a period of about a month.

In the eighteen tournaments held, only seven nations have won the title. Brazil is the most successful World Cup team, having won the tournament five times.

The current World Champions, Italy, follows with four titles, while Germany holds three. The other former champions are Uruguay (who won the inaugural tournament) and Argentina with two titles each, and England and France with one title each.

The most recent World Cup Finals were held in Germany, where Italy was crowned champion after beating France in the final

Where England will get their World Cup campaign underway

England will get their World Cup campaign underway on the 12th June at 19.30 at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Rustenburg.

Here is some history and facts on the stadium for you.

The Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace is a rugby union, football and athletics stadium in Phokeng near Rustenburg, South Africa. It was originally built as a venue for the 1995 Rugby Union World Cup and was named after the Royal Bafokeng Nation, the tribe that is prominent in the area. Although originally built as a rugby stadium, the venue has been used for football more often than any other sport after the 1995 World Cup.
Like most football stadiums in South Africa, the ground belongs to the municipality in the area. The Bafokeng people are extremely rich because of platinum mining in the area and on their cultural land, and as a result of this, the stadium has been kept in very good repair. The capacity of the stadium was increased from 38,000 to 42,000 in preparation for the Confederations Cup and this year’s World Cup.

For the 2010 event, the West Stand was substantially upgraded, enlarged and given a new cantilever roof. Other improvements include the installation of new electronic scoreboards, new seats, the upgrading of the floodlights and public address system, which has rendered the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace ready to welcome the football supporters of the world.

The stadium was built in a saddle shape to reflect its natural surroundings and upgrades were completed in March 2009 for the hosting of four matches during the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup. Situated between the bush of the Pilanesberg and the bright lights of Sun City, this stadium will be a big draw for safari-seeking World Cup tourists.

During the 2010 World Cup matches, the Bafokeng Plaza is scheduled to operate as a shopping complex but with strict conditions that comply with FIFA and the host city agreements. Post 2010, the stadium will continue to host other sporting activities in the maintenance of its existence.

Facts
- 4,000 extra seats were installed.

- New and improved floodlights, electronic scoreboards and a new Public Address system have been installed.

- The new cantilever roof was purchased at the cost of US$45 million.

- South African PSL team Platinum Stars play their home games at this stadium.

- The stadium is only 25 minutes away from world famous entertainment resort and complex, Sun City.
History

The stadium is named after the Bafokeng people who live in the area. In 1999, the Bafokeng won a legal battle, which entitled them to 20% of the platinum, which is mined on their historical land. This is the venue where Bafana Bafana recorded their first victory at the 2009 Confederations Cup, against New Zealand, thereby ensuring their qualification to the next round.

Getting There
The stadium is only a 25-minute drive to Sun City and 30 minutes to the Pilanesberg. It is 12 kilometres from Rustenburg city centre and can be reached easily via car and added bus routes, which will be made available during the event, with extra buses running on match days to accommodate fans arriving in Rustenburg from the other host cities. Rustenburg is 165km from Johannesburg on a major highway, and the trip will take around two hours.
Pilanesberg International Airport is not far from Rustenburg and the stadium, as it is next to Sun City resort. Although this airport is one of ACSA's smaller airports, there are daily connections to Cape Town (which is a two-and-a-half hours away) and to Johannesburg (a 30-minute journey). Flights around the time of the World Cup are likely to be in short supply however, due to the size of the airport.

Plus and Minuses
Pluses
- A very well maintained stadium, the venue is often commended for being an example to others in terms of management and care of the facilities.
- The pitch is usually very well taken care of and as a result the stadium presents one of the better pitches out of all the stadiums.
- Gaining access to the venue will be easier than in certain cities where the stadium is in the CBD, as the Royal Bafokeng Stadium is located away from the city centre.
Minuses
- Remember to bring a scarf, as the Royal Bafokeng Stadium can get mighty chilly on winter nights, with the open design leaving spectators at the mercy of the cold.
- The venue is the only World Cup stadium which has an athletics track built around the pitch, meaning that spectators are further away from the action than they would be at another arena.

There's a brief history on the first stadium, though I think most people will be watching the match on their tv's in homes, pubs, bars and clubs with a pint in hand!

The FA has released the timeline of England’s World Cup preparations.

Capello will name what’s expected to be a 28 man provisional squad on May 16th, for a training camp in Irdning, Austria, why Austria? I’m not 100% sure, but my guess would be some sort of altitude acclimatization.
There will also be two friendly games: England vs Mexico at Wembley, possibly May 24th, plus: England vs Japan in Graz, Austria on May 30th. The actual England 23 man World Cup squad will then be named on June 1st before the squad travels to South Africa on June 2nd.

Here’s the timeline:

Sunday 9 May – Final day of the Premier League
Saturday 15 May – The FA Cup Final
Sunday 16 May – Austria squad announcement
Monday 17 May – Players meet and travel to Austria
Saturday 22 May – Champions League Final
Monday 24 May – England v Mexico, at Wembley Stadium

ITV to show first two England matches in South Africa

ITV and BBC have carved up the World Cup matches between them, and have come to an interesting agreement. ITV will show England’s opening two matches (as well as the opening match of the World Cup alltogether) in exchange for the first two knockout round matches (should England progress that far) which will be shown on BBC.

So basically, ITV have taken the guaranteed ratings over the potential goldmine of ratings that a Last 16 or Quarter-Final could produce.

Should England make the Semi-Final both sides will show the game, and both sides will show the final, regardless of who makes it.

As a general rule, I don’t think there is much to chose between the coverage of the two sides – it depends on who they get in to do the punditry. In the past BBC have had the brilliance of Leonardo and Gordon Strachan, but they’ve also had Alan Shearer and Ian Wright. Meanwhile on ITV, they’ve had Terry Venables and Bobby Robson, but they’ve also had Teddy Sherringham and Ian Wright.

So we’ll have to wait and see. But it does make the WC feel closer already.

St.Neots Mini Rugby Match Report Under 9's 7th March 2010

Two matches this Sunday down at the St.Neots Ground against a St.Ives team yet to win a match. Were St.Neots going to send them back up the Ouse without a paddle or were we going to let them sail through our defence and anchor up on our line.

Well in actual fact it was a bit off both! The first game saw us come out a little sleepy yet again with the boys not linking up sufficiently to pass the ball across the park. High tackling and panic passing gave possession to our 'visting losers' too often in the first half and to add to this the forwards got punished too often for lack of discipline. However, when we found space, passed accurately and got the ball out to the wings the tries turned up. Through the centre we also played well with Jaydon making good ground. Frankie also found some form with good passing and some solid defence work. Liam as always answered his critics with some fantastic solo runs. The score ended at 6-4 to the home team

The second game saw again the high tackles comming in from St.Neots and gapping holes appearing in our defence when the 'must get' tackles were missed. St Ives capitalised and St. Neots found themselves pionts down with a 5 minutes to go. St Neots squared the score with the forwards working hard on their line and Daniel driving over to secure a well earnt try. A final run to their line by St.Neots ending with us camped out 5 yards from the St.Ives line, but lost control of the maul and St.Ives finished us off with a fine solo run and the whistle blew.

So all in all a mixed bag by St.Neots. In Bryans' Summary it was reiterated about high tackling and discipline. Player of the week went to Frankie and though a dissappionting result Bryan wasn't short of praise for lots of individual hard work and effort. 'What we all want to see is team work with each player thinking about the support they have around them.'

St. Neots Under 9's Mini Rugby Trainning Session 14th February 2010

9 or so boys turned up for Training at the St.Neots ground with Bryan and Ian working on maul drills and the bosh bags, later the under 10's joined us for a match. An exceptionally bitterly cold day so limited coverage. The boys played well against the older opposition with all trainers from both age groups directing the play and explaining to the boys where the errors were occuring and how to prevent them going forward. We saw some good tackling from all the boys and some good hard ground play. Bryan's round up reitterated that the boys need to have more confidence on the ball and not discard the it in a panic. Morgan was picked out as a much improved player and given player of the week. It now appears the trophy has been tracked down so no more cheap jokes about its possible whereabouts

St. Neots Match report 7th February 2010

Two matches again this week at the St Neots ground with Bedford and Hitchin visiting with a full squad exceeding 20 players each!!
So would our smaller squad of 13 players be able to dig deep and find their way through inevitably stronger opposition and find touch?
Well unlike almost all other games we came our fighting; alert, focussed and full of confidence. Well, when you start with that mindset the tries have to come and indeed thats exactly what happened. However, what I was really impressed with was the fluency of all games and the boys better understanding of when to take opportunities at the expense of the opposition.

The line outs deep in the opponents half would be an example of this and we saw how we can apply and keep the pressure on. Reckon I saw at least two interceptions by James and Thomas in the second game that led to tries being scored.

The forwards of Daniel, Morgan and Liam really looked like a pack at times, driving over and allowing recycling and creating really exciting forward play to watch.
We also saw the return of the three speedsters of Alex, Callum and Adam and all three showed us what we had been missing during previous games; capable of turning on quite unbelievable speed at the drop of a hat.
All games were tough and hard and again we saw a few minor injuries.

If I were to look for improvement, I would be looking at our overall ability to move forward quickly, particularly from the scrum and line out position. It seemed on so many occasions the team was 5 yards too slow, and allowed the opposition to open up and go wide for the line. Also a high percentage of tries were conceded due to week first tackles.

The boys need to go in harder and lower and hold their position.
Anyway the most entertaining game so far and a quick mention to Ian Nash for some good fair reffing
Bryans round up praised the boys for some excellent rugby and picked out Morgan as man of the Match for his hooking. Gabby was showing off her new ring earlier to me and mentioned in passing there would be no trophy again this week. Jim also made a visit to the ground. Clearly the surgeons didnt tamper with his voice box!!!!

St.Neots Mini Rugby Under 9's Match Report 25th January 2009

Two matches this week to report on you lucky devils. Both games were played at Home at the St.Neots ground. Firstly we had Elvis' Huntingdon side and secondly Ely who surprisingly didn't bring their rain with them!!

As always we were looking for improvements in passing, tackling and feeding the ball out to the backs, but were not to see any of this until the latter stages of the tournament. To add to the pressure we were also down on the speedsters this week with Callum, Alex and Adam all off for various reasons. However this was also a chance for the others to prove themselves and could the likes of Frankie and the twins show the boss that we had plenty of fuel in the reserve tanks!!!

Both first matches showed us very little of the improvements we all hoped for, with the boys running up blind alleys with no understanding of team play. Furthermore the mature ground work we saw last week was not repeating itself this week with St.Neots losing pocession and giving away needless penalties too regularly. However the gaps in the squad were filled as hoped for with Jaydon,Frankie and the twins soon showing confidence and pushing forward with the ball at the right times.

All games were probably the most physical we have seen for a while and most of the boys got knocks and bumps along the way and it wasnt long before the management were left with no subs to bring on. However I think this was the turning piont in the games and by the third game we were seeing the forwards linking up nicely, driving over the ball and presenting opportunities for Matthew to feed out to the backs.

Of course if you start to do the basics right the opportunities will appear and it wasnt long before we saw a vintage performance from Liam, pounding his way through everybody to make several first class tries and showing everybody that behind the mouth lurks a raw talent. This in turn woke up team and again it wasn't long before we all heard ourselves saying 'If you had played that that in the first few games...etc etc.'

During Bryan and Ian's summary it was reiterated that we need to use the team and it cant be done on your own. Everybody got a mention and without exception it was agreed that the whole team showed improvement during the course of the morning. Daniel was picked out as a forward doing what he should do ie. making the opponents game a misery during the mauls whilst Matthew started so show some good imagination behind the scrum. My first year with Print Hut

Having now been at Print Hut for a year, which to be honest doesn't seem possible, things have certainly changed for the better.

The things that have occurred / happened whilst I have been are:

Moving premises to house all the new employees

Have a Print Hut uniform which comprises of a pink t-shirt & fleece

Had a Christmas night out

Got my own business cards

Now having a greater understanding of print

Print Hut has it's very own dog Leia who frequently joins us in the office

It's a great place to work and work for and long may it continue with all our hard work.

Research identifies a new breed of enterprising female entrepreneurs, dubbed 'Kitchen Table Tycoons' who successfully juggle the roles of mother and magnate.

St.Neots Mini Rugby Under 9's Training Report 17th January 2010

Well, welcome back all to the Match report and trainning blog for the St. Neots Under 9's Mini Rugby team. Seems ages since I posted the last report which is probably because it was, what with the Holidays and recent white stuff. Anyway I think everbody was really impressed this week with the massive improvement in the squad's overal discipline on the pitch and how the boys are now presenting the ball correctly when 'gone to ground' and the forwards driving over the ball. This has led to a game of rugby which is flowing with second and third phase balls; so well done to all. Off course we are seeing the occassional scrappy, panic passes, but that'll come in time . Tackling is also really moved on with confident solid tackling when it counts. The boys also are understanding their role in the team and not just running forward with the ball, but looking and sensing where their support should be and releasing the ball....

Bryan's round up praised all the boys picking out the ground play and the overal improvement as a team. Bryan also warned the boys that high tackling will not be tolerated in a match and that they need to go in lower in the future. There was no player of the week for a number of reasons, however the fact he left it at home was the major factor we thinks...

Jim, wont be with us for a few weeks as he about to go under the surgeon's knife for a knee operation, so he kindly gave us a rendition of John Travolta's iconic saturday Night Fever dance. Unfortunately the boys were obviously too young to appreciate it....however it didn't go unnoticed by me.... Well done Jim and thanks.

Finally speaking with Bryan in the bar afterwards, I am thinking of planning a Saturday Afternoon trip out to watch Bedford Blues play over at Goldington Road in a few weeks. The plan would be to all meet at Market Square in St.Neots and catch the X5 bus to the ground. I think the kids will get in Free and also a chance for the dads and mums to catch up and share in a few beers possibly. Here are two dates to start with:

30th January: Cornish Pirates

20th February: Doncaster. Early kick off due to 6 nations so not beyond the realms of possibility to catch this at the ground on the big screen

We find ourselves harping on about the importance of brand to our clients, but have really given it little more attention that we would a corporate identity. However after much scratching about have I come up with this rather succinct description, that nails its role and the positive consequences if executed perfectly.

However as often the case easier said than done I’m afraid, particular for a small business and with the absence of a multi million pound budget!!

The American Marketing Association (AMA) defines a brand as a "name, term, sign, symbol or design, or a combination of them intended to identify the goods and services of one seller or group of sellers and to differentiate them from those of other sellers.

Therefore it makes sense to understand that branding is not about getting your target market to choose you over the competition, but it is about getting your prospects to see you as the only one that provides a solution to their problem.

The objectives that a good brand will achieve include:

· Connects your target prospects emotionally

· Motivates the buyer

· Concretes User Loyalty

There is a lot to be said for the leaflets that come through each of our letterboxes, some may think they are a nusiance, but from a business perspective, they carry a lot more potential.

Remember leafleting is one of the most cost effective ways to get your message about your local service, product or business, out to the general public.

The Printing Industry Destroying Forests - Baloney!!!

The main constituent of paper is cellulose fibre which generally comes from trees, but this doesn't automatically equate to the destruction of forests. Papermaking and other industries that depend on trees need thriving forests. It's in their interest. In managed forests, for every tree cut down, three to four are replanted in its place. It's estimated that there are 25% more trees in the developed world today than there were in 1901, and in Europe alone, forests are increasing annually by an area equivalent to more than 1.5 million football pitches.

Deforestation is generally occurring in the tropics but for a variety of reasons. The main cause of deforestation is either for agriculture or for domestic fuel requirements, which between them, account for almost half of the trees cut down worldwide.

There have been, and continue to be in some tropical countries, issues over land rights and natural forest conversion to industrial plantations which are cause for concern to the paper industry, NGOs and consumers alike.
In northern Europe, where almost all ancient forests are protected, paper comes from managed semi-natural forests where the cycle of planting, growing and logging is carefully controlled. Even in countries where natural forests are used, like Russia and Canada, logging accounts for only a tiny share of the annual tree growth.

Thanks to everyone for their kind words on their Christmas cards, however next year have a hard think about how powerful a Christmas Card can be as a piece of marketing material. Remember that only 20% of your clients will know 80% of what you do, or put another way 80% of your clients only buy 20% of your products. So tell them what you do. Almost all of our cards this year have wished Print Hut a Happy Christmas and all that stuff, but have not given us any update on their products and services. Next year folks start to use that empty page 2 (inside front cover) and start to sell yourselves more. There is nothing worse than a customer saying 'well we didin't know you offered that!!!' I bet you only communicate with your clients once a year around Christmas so make it a bit more intelligent.

1. The first meal eaten on the moon by astronauts Neil Armstrong and 'Buzz' Aldrin was cold roast turkey.

2. The costume for Sesame Street's Big Bird is made from around 40,000 white turkey feathers that have been dyed yellow.

3. In Turkey (the country) it is forbidden to eat turkey (the bird) during Seker Bayrami, the three-day festival to ¬celebrate the end of Ramadan.

4. The Turkish word for the bird we call a turkey is actually 'Hindi.'

St.Neots Mini Rugby Under 9's Match Report 7th December 2009

This week the St.Neots under 9's were facing Peterborough at home in St.Neots. A few absentees this week so the selection would be limited, but on the upside every player would get a good run out and show the coaching team what they were made of. To start with Bryan took the backs and Jim took the forwards to jeer them up a little before the contest would start. Ian was reffing his first competitive game and what a game to start your reffing career. Who remembers the flack Bryan got the the 3 Peterborough witches at their ground last year. Obviously Ian didn't!!!

The first 2 games saw St. Neots giving away needless posession with wild passing when tackled, particularly on their own line, which inevitably led to try scoring opportunites for Peterborough. However, after being absent for a few weeks, I could clearly see a vast improvement in the overal structure of the team with the forwards driving over the ball now a second nature. Also the boys now seem to be much more focussed and are taking the sport much more seriously and look like a team who want the win! I was also delighted to see the ball being moved quickly and intelligently through the line out to the wings. There was some great individual play as well throughout the field on both games.What needs to be addressed going forward is the support play when a back goes on the run. Too often, they would go to ground with a long delay before the infantry arrived. The final game I can not comment on as took home a poor sickly child suffering from a seasonal cough and cold. Well done all - including the ref!!!

These can be anything from a new resort shot right down to a colon replacing a semi colon.
